CBI raids 19 locations in 5 cities in 2021 JEE Mains paper leak case

The CBI on Saturday searched 19 locations, including Delhi and the National Capital Region, in connection with alleged rigging of the JEE (Mains) 2021 examination, officials said.

Apart from Delhi, searches were also conducted in Pune, Jamshedpur, Indore, and Bangalore. They said they found 25 laptops, seven desktop computers, more than 30 post-dated cheques, and a plethora of "incriminating" documents and instruments, including Provisional Degree Certificate (PDC) mark sheets from various students.

According to a CBI spokesperson, “Several people are being questioned. The investigation is ongoing."

The agency has accused Affinity Education Pvt Ltd and its three directors, Siddharth Krishna, Vishumbahar Mani Tripathi, and Govind Varshne, along with several touts and associates of exam manipulation in September 2021.

It was alleged that the three directors, along with other associates and touts, were manipulating the online JEE (Mains) examination and solving the question papers of the applicants for huge sums of money to the top National Institute of Facilitating students seeking admission in technology. Remote access from a selected exam center in Sonepat (Haryana).

The spokesperson said, "It was also alleged that the accused used to obtain Class 10th and 12th mark sheets, user IDs, passwords, and post-dated checks from students in various parts of the country as security. And once admitted, he used to collect huge amounts of up to 12-15 lakhs (approx) per candidate.
