The spokesperson of the National Security Council of the White House has said that the United States is aware of the news of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran on Friday, but more details will be provided by the Saudi authorities.

According to Arab News, after years of tension, Saudi Arabia and Iran have agreed to restore diplomatic relations and open embassies in each other's country within two months.

"In general, we welcome any effort to help end the war in Yemen and reduce tensions in the Middle East," a White House National Security Council spokesman added.

According to the spokesman, de-escalation and diplomacy are the key pillars of the policy that President Biden outlined during his visit to the region last year.

According to the official news agencies of the two countries, both Iraq and Oman have welcomed the announcement of the restoration of relations.

A statement from the Oman News Agency said that Oman welcomed the tripartite statement on the restoration of diplomatic relations between Riyadh and Tehran.

Iraq welcomed the "opening of a new chapter" between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Iraq's official news agency said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey has also issued a statement in which the agreement has been described as a positive step.

The Gulf Cooperation Council said in a statement that it hoped the agreement would "contribute to the promotion of security and peace."

According to a statement issued on Friday, Saudi Arabia and Iran appreciated and thanked Iraq and Oman for hosting the talks between the parties during the year 2022-2021.

Both countries expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the leadership and government of the People's Republic of China for hosting, sponsoring, and making efforts to make the talks a success.
