Iran: The incident of poisoning of female students, videos of suffering girls go viral

After the news of the poisoning of female students in Iran, videos have also gone viral on social media in which girls can be seen running away from school in fear.

According to Arab News, in the video shared on Twitter by British broadcaster Parham Qabadi, it is clear from the condition of the schoolgirls that they are in severe pain and are having difficulty breathing.

Mohammad Hassan Asfari, an Iranian member of parliament and a member of the committee investigating the incident, told the local news agency Asna that more than 5,000 boys and girls in 230 schools in 25 provinces were affected by the accident.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Interior in a statement announced the detention of several people from six provinces, including the parents of a student.

Deputy Interior Minister Majid Mir Ahmadi told state television that intelligence agencies have arrested several people and relevant agencies are fully investigating the incidents.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Interior, "An arrested person used his child to inject poisonous material into the school and then made videos of the affected students and sent them to opposing media groups to spread fear and close the school."

Similar incidents were reported in at least 15 cities on Sunday, after which citizens protested and demanded action from the authorities.

The Twitter account of the social activist group 1500 Photos also shared a video of a school in the western Iranian city of Hamdan, in which girls can be seen running out of the school screaming.

The students are shouting, "We don't want to die."

More videos from Iran have also been shared on social media, in which distraught families can be seen sitting outside emergency rooms.

Member of Parliament Muhammad Hasan Asfari says that various tests are being conducted to find out the type and causes of the poison, however, no specific information regarding the type of poison has been revealed at present.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei said on Monday that the poisoning incident is an "unforgivable crime" and "those involved in this crime should be given the death penalty and there will be no pardon for them."
