National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that the resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have been accepted under the law and constitution and the rules and regulations of the National Assembly.
PTI leaders met Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday. The PTI delegation included Aamir Dogar, Kanwal Shuzab, Sajda Begum, Aamir Kayani, Asma Hadid, Amjad Niazi, Zal Huma, Shaukat Ali Bhatti, Faizullah, Khurram Shahzad and Tahir Sadiq.
According to the statement issued by the National Assembly, the meeting discussed the acceptance of the resignations of the former members of the National Assembly and the PTI delegation requested to withdraw the initiative of accepting the resignations.
The Speaker of the National Assembly replied that 'I have accepted the resignations under the law and constitution and the rules and regulations of the National Assembly, sent letters again and again, despite this, no member of the PTI came, led by Asad Qaiser and Aamir Dogar. After the delegation, the process of accepting the resignation started.
He said that the delegation led by former Speaker Asad Qaiser requested to accept the resignation, I am bound by the constitution, law, and the rules and regulations of the National Assembly.
Raja Pervez Ashraf said to the PTI members that "didn't the members resign according to their will?" The resignations were accepted on the insistence of the delegation headed by former Speaker Asad Qaiser, still, on your request the matter will be discussed with the legal team and you will be informed.
On the other hand, Tehreek-e-Insaf nominated Shah Mehmood Qureshi as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and in this regard a letter has been written to the Speaker of the National Assembly.
It has been written in the letter that the appointment of the new chairman of NAB should be done in consultation with the opposition leader. The issue of appointment of Chairman NAB should be decided by the opposition leader nominated by PTI.
