New Zealand beat England by one run despite the follow-on

 


New Zealand beat England by one run in a thrilling second Test to become only the fourth team to win a follow-on match.

According to the AFP news agency, Neil Wagner's wicket played a decisive role in the victory of the match in Wellington, New Zealand, which he took by dismissing James Anderson when wicketkeeper Tom Blundell dived. Hoy held a memorable catch.

New Zealand struggled to keep England from reaching the target of 258 and managed to bundle out their all-out team for 256, with the series level at 1-1.

Bowler Neil Wagner, who dismissed four players for 62 runs, says, "This is a great achievement. Salute to all those who fought till the end."

England started their innings on 48 runs with one man out on Tuesday morning and suffered early losses and had four wickets down by the time they reached just 27 runs. Took up to 168 runs.

England appeared to be walking away from victory when Root and Stokes' 121-run partnership collapsed and the England captain was caught.
